Scout Trip
Over this last weekend (Friday and Saturday the 6th and 7th) my scout group when on a "Camp out". When some one says camp out I think of going out to the middle of nowhere, sleeping in a tent, and sitting around. This camp out didn't have any of these characteristics. We went up to Flaming Gorge, to a cabin, and went snowmobiling. You could hardly call it a cabin either, it was just about the size of a house. It had water. It had heat. It had a stove, oven, and fridge. It had pool and ping-pong. As I said it was a house. There was only one or two inches of snow around the cabin where we were going to go snowmobiling, so our leader(who owned the snowmobiles and the cabin) decided to trailer the snowmobiles to a trail higher up on the mountain. As we start going, we have to go through a gate. One truck, that had old tires on it and was pulling a trailer full of snowmobiles, was in front. It came up to the gate (that was on a slight hill) and stopped so that someone could open the gate. After It was open, it started going through and then started to slip. They tried to take the trailer off and go but all that happened was that they slid farther off the road. As we started to try to push the truck out a back hoe drove by. After about 20 minutes he finally managed to pull the truck out. The truck went to the top of the hill. After he went up a car went through the gate with no problems. Then another truck (with slip control and Dullies) pulling a trailer was able to go through with no problems either. He went up to the top of the hill, dropped the trailer off and went down and picked up the other trailer that the first truck couldn't pull. He made it out fine and we went out for the snowmobiling trail. We arrived and unloaded the machines then started off. Everything was going ok until one of the snowmobiles broke down. We were traveling in a line so when the one broke down most of the group didn't notice and continued on for a mile or so. They finally had to ditch the one that broke down and come back get it later. The group that was about a mile ahead had decieded to turn around to figure out what had happened to the others when they finally caught up. When one of the snowmobiles was turning around it went through some deep powder and got stuck. We pulled it out and started going. But we didn't notice that when it was stuck, it clogged the air intake/cool off system vents so it broke down after about 500 ft. What happened next? To read the rest, come back next week.
